Family History
What is Family History at Inverteign
- The chance to find out about your past
- The chance to meet people with a similar interest
- The chance to learn from Devon Family History expert Roger Keys how to find out about your family
- The chance to use computers in your search ( we can show you how to use computers if you are a complete beginner)

AND IT’S ALL FREE!
The Family History Group began as a one year project funded by the Lottery. The money was secured by Doreen Kavanagh, applying on behalf of our Centre users. Doreen has recently published the account of finding her grandfather (a warrener at Wistman’s Wood) in the ‘Dartmoor Magazine’.
The project has continued and now has regular visits from Roger Keys a local expert on Family History in England and Wales, who is a member of the Devon Family History Society.

The group is very informal, with learners helping each other in their quest to find their family roots.
Although the sessions take place in the ICT suite at the Centre and most research is done on the Internet, the group is not solely for people who can already use computers. Some of the group had never used computers when they first came to the Centre and have learnt how to use the Internet during the Tuesday sessions and during other courses and ‘Drop in’ sessions provided at the Centre.
